During the check, inspect all components: the harness webbing for cuts, frays, abrasion, or chemical damage; stitching integrity and proper adjustment of leg, chest, and shoulder straps; D‑rings and buckles for deformation, cracks, or corrosion; the lanyard or energy absorber for fraying, cuts, or stiffness; and any connectors or carabiners for gate function, free movement, and locking capability. If you’re using a self‑retrieving line or a deceleration device, verify that the housing, cord, and retraction mechanism operate smoothly. Look for any impact indicators or signs that the equipment has undergone a fall or strong impact, and remove it from service if anything looks damaged or out of spec.
